This is a BMW 8 Series designed by American artist Jeff Koons.

It’s a festival of color against a background that is otherwise quite gray, both literally and metaphorically, sedans.

This one, which is available from SBX Cars, also has a great engine to complete the package.

One of the most frequent criticisms of the car world these days is that all cars look the same.

People who say that are not entirely wrong.

There are so many vehicles built on shared platforms that it’s sometimes difficult to tell them apart.

This wouldn’t apply to the BMW 8 Series in any case, but it definitely doesn’t apply here.

Jeff Koons’ collab with BMW

BMW isn’t new to this sort of thing, and they even came up with a moniker for their ‘artsy’ cars.

They call it the ‘Arts Cars’ series.

Unveiled to a global audience at Frieze Los Angeles, this is ‘The 8 X Jeff Koons’.

Koons combined 11 different exterior colors, ranging from blue to silver and yellow to black, which took 285 hours per car to apply.

Production was limited to 99 cars, and each car was hand-painted, so this was a massive task.

Koons apparently painted four cars a week during production.

The amazing engine under the (colorful) hood

We shouldn’t let the colorful livery trick us into thinking this car is all show and no go.

It’s based on the BMW M850i xDrive, which means it has a meaty 4.4-liter V8 producing 523 horsepower.

That’s more than enough to propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in well under 4 seconds.

The top speed is electronically limited to 260 km/h – or 157 mph.

A collector’s car

This BMW obviously checks all the boxes a collector’s car should.

In fact, it has only done 22 kilometers (13 miles), which means it was bought and delivered and never left the garage.

The auction is set to go live today, July 31st.
