If you were hoping that the brand-new BMW centerlock wheels would come as a welcome upgrade for your M2, M3, or M4 model, you might have to lower your expectations.
BMW has priced the centerlock wheels at a jaw-dropping $20,000.
That’s a third of the price of some of the cars themselves.
But BMW says there’s a good reason for this.
BMW stings US market with expensive new wheels
Of course, BMW is a European cars brand and finding them in the US can be a tricky proposition for buyers at times.
But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
In fact, a number of incredible new BMW cars are cropping up, such as the upcoming BMW M3 CS Touring, which fits the American market to a tee.
But for those who already own an M2, M3, or M4, and want to upgrade their cars, the new BMW Centrelock wheels have just been revealed to have a full instalation price of $19,995.
The wheels are exclusive to just seven pairs in the US, currently, which may explain the hiked supply-and-demand price.
But considering these models can be bought brand-new for $60,000 (M240i xDrive Coupe being the cheapest), it has people questioning why on Earth the wheels cost so much.
Why do the BMW Centerlock Wheels cost $20,000?
As reported by BMW Blog, the price breakdown is rather subjective.
The actual wheel set (for either four-wheel drive or rear-wheel) costs $6,696 in America.
However, they require new wheel hubs and special torque multiplier tools, which BMW has priced at $11,037.90.
There is no show without punch, huh?
Then, the release tool, Sythes Glep 1 grease, Wuerth Al 1100 aluminum paste, a centerlock wheel socket, and a specialised torque wrench combine for a further $2,262, taking the total cost to $19,995.
That is including free labor.
BMW really is pushing the boat out with its technology as of late, creating ‘invisible cars’ that Supercar Blondie herself has tested out, and new upgrades to its iDrive system that turns the windshield into a panoramic display.
With hope, as more of the BMW centerlock wheels are made, the price may shift down.
