This BMW M5 driver in Modesto, California, is probably regretting driving a clownfish orange car.

The driver evaded a pursuit at speeds of over 100MPH, according to the police.

They didn’t catch the driver right then, but they managed to track the car after.

It’s easy to see how.

How the police tracked down this BMW M5

The driver of this BMW M5 in Modesto, California, was clocked speeding at 100MPH+, according to the police.

They didn’t manage to catch him, but they did manage to track his car down precisely because it was just so easily recognizable.

The very next day, police officers managed to identify the clownfish orange car, in no small part thanks to the incredible paint. They then obtained a warrant and seized it.

The Police Department actually said as much.

“It kinda stands out,” law enforcement wrote in an Instagram post.

This M5, which is a couple of generations old, is painted in clownfish orange.

Based on the only picture shared by the police department, it does look like actual paint, not a vinyl wrap. Which is interesting because BMW doesn’t offer that particular shade of orange.

An expensive ‘punishment’

The Modesto Police Department said the car will be impounded for 30 days, which is going to cost the owner a pretty penny.

According to Modbee.com, drivers could pay anywhere from $39-$65 a day for their impounded car. So that’s probably going to be north of $2,000 including fees.

This, presumably, is on top of the speeding ticket.

It’s a hefty sum.

In fact, it’s enough to buy a long list of used cars, and even some new ones, for that matter.
