Which car topped the list as the cheapest to run in the United States of America?
It was the Tesla Model 3 that came out on top as the most affordable.
But it wasn’t the only Tesla to make an impressive showing on the list.
The Model Y also appeared in the top 10, alongside the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla.
This isn’t to say that the cars themselves are cheap to buy, this is more about all the costs that come after you take it home.

For example, the Model 3’s running costs was estimated to be just over $5,000 – around $1,400 lower than the industry average.
When drawing up the list, Self Financial took the cost of fuel/energy, maintenance, insurance and taxes into account.

Given that gas proved to be the most costly factors for cars, Teslas had an immediate advantage as EVs.
The Model 3 only needed $636 worth of electricity every year to run, whilst the average entry in the study was relying on $2,246.
The benefits of EVs are constantly rolling in, as they are also more energy efficient than their gas counterparts.

In third place was the Toyota Corolla, which cost $5,182 a year to run.
