This Brit said these things blow her mind about driving in the US

If you’re from the UK, and you take a quick trip across the Atlantic, you’ll find that they do things slightly differently when it comes to hitting the road.

Now, to give us an idea of what Brits struggle with when driving in the US, one TikTokker shared all.

Content creator sapphireempson shared the things that she’s still getting to grips with.

One of the things that blows her mind is the fact that in the US, cars are driven on the opposite side of the road to the UK, she even joked that she ‘will always walk to the wrong door’.

Next up on her list was the fact that crossing the road is done differently in the US, too.

In the UK, there are laws that mean drivers have to stop and wait, but in the US, she says that you can drive through a red light if you’re turning right.

She also explained that in the UK, license plates are different too, as private plates are more widely available, as well as front plates not being necessary in some states.

“You couldn’t even do this in the UK,” she said

Among other things shared that blew her mind was the fact that hazard lights are used for a ‘little bit of rain’, alongside the fact that jaywalking can land you with a nasty ticket.

The final element on the list of things that blow her mind is the fact that walking places is more uncommon in the US than in the UK.

“No one walks anywhere, and if they do, they’re majority of the time in a city or have no other option.

“Driving here is a necessity to get around, [there’s] hardly no public transport like the UK,” she detailed.

Americans shared their thoughts on the different things she listed about driving

After the content creator shared her thoughts on driving and road safety in the US, some residents were confused.

“I’ve never heard of a jaywalking ticket be anything other than theoretical,” said one user.

“Driving with hazards varies from state to state. But in most places actually illegal unless it’s for an actual emergency,” informed another person.

“I’m Irish, living in the US. I love being able to turn right on red. Also, the roads here are slippery in the rain due to buildup of oil during dry weather,” said a third person.

It’s also important to note that road rules vary from country to country and even state to state.

For example, Florida’s new Super Speeder law took just two minutes to start having an effect in the Sunshine State.

Plus, recently, Ohio dramatically changed laws regarding how to get a driver’s license, which made it a lot harder for teens to get behind the wheel.
