Did you know there’s a British hypercar that’s so powerful it can drive upside down?
No, we promise we’re not joking.
It is an EV hypercar that accelerates from 0-60mph in just 1.38 seconds.
And it will set you back a cool $1,300,000 – check the date, this story isn’t being published on April 1.

Thunderstorm brings all-electric power
Okay, so what car could be capable of actually driving upside down?
Well, there is one – and it is an incredible feat of engineering.
Allow us to introduce you to the McMurtry Speirling.
David McMurtry was an Irish businessman who was born in Dublin in 1940.
The businessman made his fortune in supplying metrology equipment in the UK.
He would go on to establish McMurtry Automotive in June of 2016.

The next three years saw the McMurtry Spéirling EV developed in secrecy.
2021 saw the official unveiling of the Spéirling – the Irish word for ‘Thunderstorm’.
The company unveiled the McMurtry Spéirling EV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2021.
And straight away, it was clear that this hypercar was something totally different.
It would go on to smash the lap record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in 2022.

Speirling comes with insane numbers
So what powers this British hypercar – and what allows it to drive upside down?
Providing this inhuman level of performance is a fascinating, all-electric setup.
The single-seater machine is powered by a twin-motor setup.

These are found mounted on the rear axle – and they provide the McMurtry Spéirling EV with over 1,000bhp.
All of this adds up to the numbers – and they only get even more unbelievable from there.
It will do 0-60mph in a scarcely believable time of just 1.38 seconds.
If that isn’t impressive enough, a whopping 0-100mph can be done in just 2.63 seconds.
The British hypercar that drives upside down
If you’re a motorsport fan, then you may have heard of the downforce debate.
Essentially, the theory runs that an F1 car produces so much downforce that it could, in theory, drive upside-down.
McMurtry Automotive has actually proven that the feat is possible.

This is because the Speirling comes with a ‘Downforce-on-demand’ fan system.
It produces more than 4,400lbs of downforce at the push of the button.
Of course, all of this performance comes at quite a hefty price.
That price, to be specific, is $1,300,000.
In all fairness, it is a hypercar that can drive upside down – and that’s priceless.
