Buyers have begun discovering the secret to incredibly low EV prices, as sales skyrocket thanks to the discovery.
The New York Times reported in August that electric vehicle sales had taken off in a big way, despite overall consumer interest in the vehicles being lower than usual.
Consumers have remained cautious due to rising costs of living, but thanks to pre-owned and used electric vehicles, they have suddenly become more affordable.
In fact, it appears that they are now priced comparably to those with internal combustion engines.

The trick behind the low EV prices
Consumers have felt that brand-new EVs have had a higher price tag than many of their internal-combustion engine rivals.
The National Resources Defense Council recently noted that the difference in prices is converging.
However, it appears that a massive drop in used/pre-owned prices has had an impact on sales.
In fact, The New York Times said they are often priced lower than ICE cars in the same category.

These costs don’t factor in add-ons such as the low cost of maintenance for an EV or the lack of fuel expenses.
With tempting offers available for electric cars, it’s no surprise that consumers are seriously considering used vehicles.
Plus, research has shown that battery degradation and range loss aren’t a massive deal.
So the case for buying an electric car second-hand just got more compelling.
Second-hand EVs have become very tempting
The New York Times also spoke to some people who had bought an electric car.
One was a Floridian tech executive, Todd Albert, who bought a 2022 Audi e-tron during this current boom.
He claimed he was ‘obsessed’ with the new car and would gaze on it from his bedroom balcony.

Another customer, Cathy Eberhart, bought a Chevy Bolt in 2023.
Having not paid a gas bill in two years, she has also seen her annual cost of living go down.
Issues like range anxiety can still put people off buying any electric car, though.
But, with prices becoming so tempting, more and more people could end up making the switch to EVs sooner rather than later.
