BYD just unveiled a gorgeous European supercar rival and it charges in nine minutes

BYD has chosen its premium sub-brand, Denza, to launch a new flagship supercar designed for Europe.

They call it the Denza Z Convertible, and it’s halfway between a GT and a supercar.

Even though it was unveiled at the Bejing Auto Show, this car wants to challenge the dominance of European brands in the Old Continent.

That’s the talk but, looking at technical specs, this car can probably also walk the walk.

This supercar might solve range anxiety

Like other equivalent supercars, the Denza Z Convertible is designed with a road trip to the spa in mind, but also to set lap records around Spa Francorchamps.

Built on BYD’s e3 platform, the vehicle features three electric motors for a grand total of around 1,000 horsepower.

It takes 2 seconds to get to 60mph and, even more importantly, it takes less than 10 minutes to charge using BYD’s Flash chargers – basically the equivalent of Tesla Superchargers for the brand.

This is huge because it solves, at least in part, the range anxiety problem.

Also, unusually for a supercar, Denza Z features independent rear-wheel steering, which allows the car to do tank turns and crab walk like the Hummer EV, for example.

AI, the buzzword of the decade, is involved too.

This supercar is fitted with BYD’s self-driving system, God’s Eye, and AI also powers the DiSus-M suspension system, which scans the road in real time and changes the suspension setup accordingly.

Designed by a European for Europe

Chinese automakers have already (re)taken control of their domestic market, consistently outselling foreign brands, and now they’re ready to ‘take over’ Europe.

The Z Convertible, for example, was teased in Beijing, but the full dynamic debut will take place in Europe.

Specifically at Goodwood in the UK.

And speaking of Europe, this was penned by Wolfgang Egger – former Head of Design at Audi.

Denza Z Convertible price

Price-wise, rumors are promising, but with a catch.

In China, this car could start at around $40,000 or $50,000.

However, everywhere else, this sounds slightly optimistic.

The production model will almost certainly cost at least six figures.

But we’ll see.
