California man asks Tesla Cybertruck drivers what their monthly payments are and it's left people feeling better about their own

This California YouTuber decided to conduct an interesting experiment by asking Tesla Cybertruck owners some questions.

The questions were basically the same for everyone, but the answers, predictably, were not.

There are two things that stood out.

One of which was the size of the monthly payments.

YouTuber DennisCW asked Tesla Cybertruck owners in California a few questions about the vehicle.

The questions were pretty straightforward: What do they love, what do they hate, and how much are they actually paying per month to drive one?

Let’s start with the good stuff.

All owners agreed that the Cybertruck’s performance definitely sets it apart from traditional pickups.

They also all agreed that the truck is a ‘jack of all trades’ and is capable of doing pretty much everything.

The tech also stands out.

Most owners agreed that the steer-by-wire system is phenomenal.

“[After trying steer-by-wire] everything else feels clunky,” one owner said.

Another thing that stood out was FSD.

“The full self-driving is unbelievable. The four-wheel steering, the off-road capabilities. It’s the best road trip vehicle I’ve ever owned,” another owner told DennisCW.

Unfortunately, this brings us to a bittersweet moment.

Because now we also need to talk about the bad stuff.

What owners don’t like about the Tesla Cybertruck

Interestingly, even though many owners praised FSD, a few complained about it because it can be a little glitchy.

“It occasionally hesitates, holds lanes too long and so on,” one of the owners noted.

That’s a one-off, it seems, because one of the owners – a very early adopter – said his Cybertruck in general had a bunch of bugs at first, and those could only be solved with multiple software updates.

Here’s how much they’re paying

One of the owners – Roy, a dentist who clearly knows his way around investing – bought his truck outright after making a small fortune in Tesla stock.

While he didn’t reveal his exact returns, he mentioned buying in back in 2012, ages ago when Tesla stock was very cheap.

Apart from Roy, everyone else was still dealing with monthly payments – and what surprised us was the wide gap between the amounts.

Randy, who owns a medical equipment business, said he’s ‘only’ paying $1,200 per month.

By contrast, another business owner called Coco Vinnie told the YouTuber he’s apparently paying $2,000 per month.

On average, the Cybertruck owners the YouTuber talked to were paying around $1,500 per month.

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data, the average annual salary in California is $79,900 – which, ironically, is the exact base MSRP of the Cybertruck.

That works out to roughly $7,200 per month.

In other words, the average owner is dropping over 20 percent of their gross monthly salary on this truck.

We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether that’s financially sensible or not.
