This man from California decided to test out his hard work on a DIY engine repair and take his Mazda Miata on a road trip.
The car enthusiast had previously fixed some vital parts of the Mazda to enable it to run smoothly after the car had been a prized possession in his family for many years.
After getting a refresh, it was finally time to test it on the open road.
But with DIY elements and weather elements to deal with, a few hurdles appeared along the way.

This Mazda Miata is the ultimate passion project
The Miata is an iconic car, first unleashed in the 1980s, and instantly recognisable by its unique headlights and sleek silhouette.
One creator was lucky enough to have a Mazda Miata as a family heirloom, but before he took it on a coastal adventure, some fixes needed to be made – including a DIY engine repair.

In order to get the car fighting fit again, creator mellow_conner replaced the head gasket on the Miata, enabling it to start using jump cables.
Next, he had a little bit more work to do as there was a small misfire, leading him to replace a few more parts, including the PCV valve.

After this was done, it was time for the Mazda Miata to take on its first small road trip, as up until this point, the car sat at 300 miles after the engine rebuild.
This is how the DIY masterpiece really fared along the US coast
After only venturing out locally, the coastal camping roadtrip was a brand new challenge for the creator.
On the coastal route, another aim was to help his friend capture some skating content, with the Miata also being used as a tripod to film the action.
Not only were hundreds of miles added to the Miata, but some skateboarding content was captured at the same time along the coast.
The content creator’s friend was able to keep pace alongside the car on his board – talk about multitasking.
However, once the creator had driven out to the coast, he made the decision to drive inland due to seeing fog on the horizon and worrying about the car getting damp.
Driving onwards, they eventually found a campsite and got the Miata settled before calling it a night.

The next day, the road trip continued, adding more miles onto the clock, but there was a slight problem.
The speedometer seemed to have stopped working, which, let’s face it, is less than ideal in any situation.
Coming to the end of the road trip, with an even bigger challenge on the horizon, the creator was impressed with the car’s performance.
The oil looked good, and even though the speedometer wasn’t quite working at its peak, overall, the DIY engine repair held up very well.
All eyes are on mellow_conner with more Miata content set to be released very soon, centring around this precious four-wheeled heirloom.
