California has unique highway shields to help identify the Golden State instantly.
We get it, travelling from state to state can sometimes be confusing thanks to different sign systems and road rules.
Whether you’re visiting in real life or virtually using games such as GeoGuessr, things can sometimes feel muddled and it can be a hard task figuring out your location.
But, one GeoGuessr player revealed the highway shields in different states that can help you recognise where you are, and quickly too.
YouTuber Chicago Geographer shared a guide online with US tips, which explained different states and their signs.
California’s highway shield has the state name as well as being a unique shape.

“Its shape mimics the spade carried by Forty-Niners into the foothills and sold by the opportunistic merchants who made the real fortunes of the California Gold Rush,” explained PBS SoCal.
So, if you ever find yourself stuck on GeoGuessr, look for the highway shield, and you might find your way out, as we now know it helps global players out massively.
California is a car lover’s state
Aside from having unique highway shields, California is also home to a large number of gearheads.
And, thanks to the recent shift from gas-powered cars to electric vehicles, the state has lots of EVs on the road.

For example, one California man put a Tesla Cybertruck against Chevy Silverado in tug-of-war for ultimate battle of electric vs diesel.
Plus, another man from the state has driven a Ford Mustang Mach-E over 250,000 miles proving not all EVs have a short shelf life.
