California’s wild ’80s limos were the definition of extra – they had pools, helipads, and more wheels than you could count.
Limousines aren’t exactly known for being understated, but the work of California customizer Jay Ohrberg is something else altogether.
His limos are big, bold, and beautiful.
They say that everything’s bigger in Texas, but whoever said that forgot about California’s limos.

There are a lot of cars out there that make a big statement, but does any car do it better than a limo?
Whether it’s a Range Rover or a Dodge Viper, these are cars designed to get heads turning.
And not all limos come into the world the same way, either.

We’ve seen limos made out of Learjets, and out of Ferrari 360 Modenas.
Limos are the dachshunds of the car world – elongated, low to the ground, and beloved.
And the work of Jay Ohrberg is no exception.
Back in the 1980s, he built a fleet of limousines that pushed boundaries.
Perhaps his most famous creation was The American Dream, which measured at more than 100 feet long.
Nothing says America quite like a car that’s way bigger than it would ever need to be.

But with 26 wheels and a putting green on the back, that space was necessary.
It holds the record as the longest car in the world – even our very own Alex Hirschi, AKA Supercar Blondie, has seen it up close and personal.
However, The American Dream isn’t the only jewel in Ohrberg’s crown.
He also made an elongated Ferrari limo which could seat eight people, and had 10 wheels.
There was also a pink convertible fit for Paris Hilton herself, with a heart-shaped pool built into the trunk.

One limo traded in length for width, and had an open deck.
It looked more like a boat than a limo, truth be told.
But if we look at the wider picture, it should be no surprise that Ohrberg took on these larger-than-life designs.
He has a proud and extensive career in creating vehicles for film and television.
Included in his long and distinguished line-up are the Batmobile, the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the Flintstones car, and KITT from Knight Rider.
Playing a part in so many iconic movies and creating a Guinness World Record-holding car?
What a cool career trajectory.
