The task of clearing your car’s windscreen is one that all of us dread, especially on dark and cold mornings.

However, having to wake up extra early and run the car for ages before setting off could be a struggle that’s consigned to the past.

Thanks to a genius invention by one Canadian company, ice could disappear in just a few seconds.

Plus, if that wasn’t enough, range could also be added to your EV, too.

Stop, collaborate, and listen. Betterfrost is back with a brand new invention

Canadian company Betterfrost has revealed an invention that could make many drivers rejoice.

Thanks to brand new, clever technology, windscreen ice could be melted quicker than it takes to make your cup of morning coffee.

According to the company itself, this works on ‘any conductive surface’ and can additionally clear frost particles on areas like the wings of airplanes.

“We pulse heat so that it only reaches the interfacial layer, about ~ 0.1mm from the surface.

“No wasted heat escapes into the environment,” the company explained.

But what really drives the tech forward?

Well, it has been described as Pulsed Electro-Thermal De-icing, AKA PETD, which means it only targets the water that is sandwiched between glass and ice.

Clever right?

Surprisingly, even though we’re just hearing about it now, it’s actually been floating around since 2022 and is based on over 10 years of research on how ice forms at Dartmouth Ice Lab.

So, your days of holding a can of de-icer with numb hands could be no more.

More range could be added to your EV, as well as a clear windscreen

According to The Drive, the CEO of Betterfrost shared how the invention of the tech could even extend your car’s range.

CEO Derrick Redding explained that the benefits of using the new windshield de-icer technology include increasing the range of an EV by 24 miles (28km) on an average commute in winter.

It was said to be worth ‘$600/vehicle in battery pack cost to automakers’.

So, not only could your windscreen be defrosted quickly, but your EV could actually travel further too.
