A car expert has given honest advice on how often we should really get maintenance on our cars.

How often we should have work done to our cars is harder to judge than you might think, as there are often a lot of factors at play, such as the car’s age, how much it gets driven, etc.

But Sean Brhyant at Go Banking Rates has offered some pointers regarding certain areas of work on a car after he spoke to a car expert.

This advice covers topics such as oil changes, changing a car’s air filters, and a few other areas.

Basic car maintenance is very important

One basic car maintenance area that is hugely important is oil changing.

For decades, we’ve been told that every 3,000 miles is the right time to change a car’s oil.

However, the expert stated that actually, cars go up from 5,000 to 7,500 miles now, thanks to synthetic oils.

Most manufacturers also recommend oil changes well above the old 3,000-mile mark.

Another essential area of maintenance mentioned by the expert was air filters.

Every car comes with one to prevent dirt and other contaminants from getting into the engine.

These are components that should be replaced at least every 15,000 to 30,000 miles.

Brake fluids also need changing every so often

One area that seemingly is easily neglected is the brake fluid on a car.

It absorbs moisture, which can lower the stopping power of your car.

The expert said that changing it every two years is the way to go.

A benefit is that you can do it while also changing the oil in your car.

Finally, they also mentioned coolant changes.

Coolant stops a car from overheating and prevents it from freezing in the winter.

It also stops corrosion within the cooling system itself.

Changing this between 30,000 and 50,000 miles or every two years will help keep it in optimal condition.
