The secret code words that car salespeople use behind your back

When buying a car, it’s often easier to go straight to a dealership where car salespeople can offer help and advice.

But, for all their help and advice, some salesmen actually have secret code words that they use to talk about customers behind their backs.

That might surprise some people… or not.

We’ve taken a deep dive into some of the slang, and certain parts pay homage to a particular sport – baseball.

First up, the phrase ‘home run’ actually means a deal where a car has been sold for the asking price or even more, but that’s not the only sport-inspired code word.

‘Whack ’em’ is used to describe when a finance and insurance department manages to tempt the buyer with packages.

The word ‘gold balls’ also indicates a customer with good credit, alongside the phrase ‘ third base coach,’ which is used to describe the person who comes along with the buyer that is used to offer advice.

There are also some cheeky phrases that you wouldn’t ever expect, and our favorite? ‘F.D.R.S.’

‘Filthy disease-ridden swine’ aka F.D.R.S basically means a potential buyer that has bad credit – harsh, right?

Other cheeky code words include ‘$500 sandwich’, which indicates a sale that was lost because of a break at lunch, plus ‘slasher’, which is used to describe a salesman who has entered temporarily in order to make good decisions during a weekend or short sale period.

‘Lot lizard’ is also used to describe a salesperson who keeps close tabs on a customer as soon as they arrive in the parking lot, proving that nothing goes unnoticed.

Some car salesmen have gone a step further and offered golden advice on buying cars

Despite some salesmen talking behind your back, not all of them are at it.

Some car salesmen go the extra mile and help out people all over the globe.

They often dish out advice on what cars to buy and why, as well as sharing top tips when it comes to keeping vehicles in perfect working order.

For example, for people wondering how to answer vital questions when making an all-important purchase, one retired car salesman showed the perfect responses to give.

Another salesman revealed the truth behind a certain hand gesture and what the movement actually means.

So there we have it – if you ever hear this secret jargon, you’ll know what is really going on behind the scenes.
