Another major carmaker has confirmed it won’t allow Apple CarPlay Ultra, joining dozens of marques who have failed to commit to the feature.
Apple announced its next-generation CarPlay in May.
At the time, the tech giant said it would bring the ‘best of iPhone and the best of the car together for a deeply integrated experience’.
However, just a few months on, it seems that many carmakers aren’t interested in joining.

When Apple CarPlay Ultra was announced back in May, the brand said it would initially only be available on Aston Martin vehicles.
But added that other carmakers, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis would join up soon.
Since then, it’s safe to say it hasn’t exactly set the automotive world alight and its currently only still available on Aston Martin models.
Several brands, like Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, and Polestar, have all said they will be sticking with the original Apple CarPlay.
Now, BMW is the latest carmaker to say it won’t be introducing Apple CarPlay Ultra.
“BMW currently has no plans to integrate Apple CarPlay Ultra,” a spokesperson told BMW Blog this week.
In total, around 20 names, including Fiat, Jeep, and Volkswagen, have either said they won’t be getting Apple CarPlay Ultra or haven’t confirmed support for the update.
But it’s not all bad news for Apple, as several big names have said they plan to eventually get CarPlay Ultra.
Aside from Aston Martin, where the tech is already in use, Ford, Honda, Land Rover, Jaguar, Nissan and Porsche, have all confirmed they will be supporting it in future, according to 9to5 Mac.
BMW has been working on its own in-car tech
It perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise that BMW isn’t keen to join up to CarPlay Ultra.
Earlier this year, it unveiled a newly updated and upgraded version of its own iDrive technology at CES 2025.
The new technology will be fitted in its upcoming Neue Klasse models – and will feature an upgraded version of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
The company has said its new in-car tech system will be one of the ‘world’s best’ and said ti will ‘form an integral part of all future models’.
