From the desert crawler to the 6x6: these are the coolest G-Wagens ever created

The G-Wagen is one of the most popular models in the history of Mercedes.

It’s also one of the most popular models for car modifiers to get their hands on.

From the desert crawler to the 6-wheeler, these are some of the craziest G-Wagen mods ever created.

6. Virgil Abloh’s Off-White G-Wagen

The Off-White G-Wagen was Virgil Abloh’s first collab with Mercedes-Benz.

Abloh and Mercedes began by removing the wing mirrors, the headlamps and even the windows.

To top it all off, they fitted racing wheels and pastel blue side tailpipes.

Mind you, that’s nothing compared to what they did with the interior.

The dashboard was redesigned from scratch, adorned with fighter jet-style dials and switches.

The standard steering wheel was replaced with a race car one, and Mercedes also gave it some DTM-style bucket seats.

And the pastel blue roll cage definitely makes it one of the coolest G-Wagens in the world.

Unfortunately, this was a one-off and isn’t for sale.

5. G-Wagen with 6 wheels

Believe it or not the 6×6 was developed by Mercedes-Benz itself.

The name is an obvious reference to the number of wheels but the engine is the same 5.5-liter V8 that powers the standard G63.

Mercedes only built 100 units between 2013 and 2015.

Check out the video below to see how the G63 6×6 handles on the road.

4. Brabus Crawler 900

This is one of the craziest G-Wagen models because it’s just so different.

Brabus calls it a ‘Crawler‘ and it’s a windowless, doorless monster truck for the desert.

It doesn’t even have a windshield.

The interior looks fantastic, finished in deep crimson red and fitted with a matching roll cage.

Only 15 units were ever built, each priced at $840,000.

You can read more about the Brabus Crawler here.

3. The ‘G-Boss’

Dubbed the ‘G-Boss’, this yellow G-Wagen kinda looks like a bee. Or a school bus.

Made in Germany by G&B Design, it features a widebody kit and an in-your-face color combo, combining black accents with vivid yellow.

It also has a massive spoiler and an equally sizable diffuser, making it one of the coolest G-Wagens on the road.

How much? You’re looking at a base price of around $50,000 for the bodykit.

Unfortunately, there are no mechanical upgrades available.

2. ‘Rapper-friendly’ G-Wagen by Hofele Design

This G-Wagen by Hofele Design looks like it came straight of a rap music video.

Among other things, the two-tone paint finish in black and chrome definitely stands out.

Along with matching chrome wheels and the suicide doors, of course.

The interior is a bit more understated, with plain vanilla upholstery in white leather and TV screens for the rear passengers.

The price is only available on application but think $250k and up.

1. Mansory Star Trooper G-Wagen by Philipp Plein

When it comes to the coolest G-Wagens, you can’t go past the Star Trooper.

This ‘Star Trooper’ G-Wagen in dark camo was designed by Mansory in partnership with French designer Philipp Plein.

The exterior is striking but relatively sober, with the exception of the gigantic ‘PP’ emblem on the spare wheel.

The interior is equally discreet, sort of, with the exception of the seats.

They’re adorned with Philipp Plein’s logo and feature a striking pattern for the upholstery.

Limited to 20 units, it has a price tag of $550,000.

And we can’t mention the Star Trooper without also mentioning the pickup edition.

It’s a masterpiece defined by its luxury design elements and its high drive performance.

You just have to take one look at it to know it’s one of the craziest and coolest G-Wagen mods of all time.
