This woman managed to snap up a super cheap Chinese EV that costs less than a golf cart, but after driving it around, she realised there was one major barrier.

Different consumer demand creates varying car markets in every country around the world, and in China, small EVs are desired by the public.

In the US, however, drivers are looking for something a little different.

So, armed with one minuscule, cheap EV, the creator took to the roads, and the reactions to the car from other drivers were priceless.

This could be the cheapest Chinese EV in the US

Meet the Bestune pony, which could be the smallest and cheapest EV you have ever seen.

We all remember Smart cars hitting the production line, but after their discontinuation, not many tiny cars have made quite the same mark on the industry since.

Creator Kim Java got up close and personal with this new pastel pink EV in Southern California to really see if it was worth the hype.

“This may look like a toy, but this is how the Chinese make affordable cars,” said Kim as she got into the driver’s seat alongside fellow creator Shelby Church.

According to Kim, the car costs a mere $4,800, making it a super cheap option for motorists.

The Bestune pony has a few options for drivers: The Playful Pony, Colorful Pony, Shiny Pony, Smart Pony, and Petite Pony.

Kim says that the Playful Pony base model comes in at $4,800, with other reports stating $4,900.

Either way, less than $5,000 for a car is impressive.

Now, the car is basic, but it is an affordable option.

The inside has a mix of English and Chinese symbols, and an interior infotainment screen, which was, however, slow and in Chinese.

The cabin features are also plastic, with minimal room in the back, although there is a small amount of trunk space, so it wasn’t all bad.

In fact, for an affordable EV, it was quite spacious, yet golf-cart-like.

The car has a top speed of 100 km/h (62mph), according to gneenev.com, so although it’s small, it can shift fast.

After driving the car around, there was one quick realization

Many passing drivers and members of the public thought that the car was way beyond the price point Kim explained it to be.

One person guessed $20,000, whilst another conjured up a price of $50,000, and when the truth was revealed, they were shocked at the true value.

Now, even though the cheap Chinese EV may seem like a good idea, Kim came to a huge conclusion after testing it out.

“Even if cost and safety weren’t issues, one major barrier keeps these cars out of the US.

“We don’t have the in-between categories.

“The US basically says either you are a full car or you’re in a golf cart class,” she explained.

She went on to detail that once a car can hit over 25mph, it has to be engineered for high-speed crashes, making microcars the same price as normal-sized cars.

So, sadly, these won’t be on US roads anytime soon, but hey, at least they are fun to look at.
