This guy bought a used Tesla Model S Plaid for about $47,000.
This meant he paid around $100,000 under the asking price, which is appealing but also begs a question.
When his mechanic opened the ‘trunk’, he found out the hard way why this Tesla was so cheap.
He was genuinely surprised the car was even working in the first place.

The reason why this Tesla was so cheap
Tyler Hoover, the guy behind the Hoovies Garage YouTube channel, took his Tesla Model S Plaid to his trusted mechanic in Kansas, David Long aka ‘Car Wizard’, for an inspection.
When the mechanic removed the thing that you’d call an ‘engine cover’ in an ICE, he was left gobsmacked.
Not because he had never seen the engine of an EV before, which he had, but because of what he found.
The mechanic realized high-voltage power cables were being kept together with zip ties.
Everything else was more or less fine, apart from the ruined tires, but this was not exactly the news Hoover wanted to hear.

But precisely because this was the only issue, you’d probably still call this a steal.
A fully-specced Tesla Model S Plaid has an MSRP that’s dangerously close to $150,000, so getting one for $47,000 isn’t a bad deal.
Are modern cars smartphone on wheels?
Modern cars have fewer mechanical components than ever before, and this applies to ICE cars as well.
It’s all about software, from the way the engine delivers power to the tune that comes out of the exhaust system.
Cars feel like smartphones on wheels these days, which probably explains why some smartphone makers are now building cars as well.

The Xiaomi car is a great example.
It took everyone by surprise when it was unveiled about a year ago, but people are now taking it seriously.
Partly because Xiaomi can apparently build one from scratch in 76 seconds, and partly because it’s so impressive even the CEO of Ford can’t believe how good it is.
