The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has smashed the speed record for the fastest car ever built by an American auto manufacturer.

The supercar reached 233 mph on a test track in Germany, setting a new speed benchmark for American automakers.

Plus the supercar was driven by none other than General Motors President Mark Reuss.

Talk about having a badass boss. Not that we don’t one ourselves.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: the fastest US production car

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has set a top speed record unrivaled by any current American car.

Of course, it’s still a ways away from the fastest cars in the world, but it is still quite an achievement.

“Setting the top-speed record in the Corvette ZR1 is a true triumph for Corvette and for Chevrolet, and also an exhilarating, surreal experience for me personally,” said Reuss.

Of course, the 2025 ZR1 is the most powerful Corvette ever made with more than 1000hp.

It also features the most powerful V8 engine ever produced in America.

With Corvette shifting to a mid-engine architecture, this record was a real possibility.

The record run

Mark Reuss’s 233mph record run used a ZR1 coupe with a standard chassis, aero package, carbon fiber ground effects, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

It also used a Top Speed Mode developed by Chevrolet engineers exclusively for the test track.

The 233mph record run was also not just a one-time performance.

Five engineers exceeded 230 mph across multiple runs with the onsite ZR1 development cars.

Fastest car GM has ever produced

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 features a 5.5L, twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

It also produces 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm.

It is by far the fastest car GM has ever produced.
