A jet engine roared through a Florida McDonald’s drive-thru when a turbine car, built from a Chevy Camaro, pulled in trailing fire and smoke.
The custom build runs on diesel, features a working afterburner, and rolls under its own power.
Its creators had just finished solving several mechanical issues and took the car out for a public test.
They made it all the way to the restaurant, but horror of horrors, the McFlurry machine wasn’t working.

Chevy Camaro Brings the Heat
The Chevy Camaro had been fitted with a jet engine, and not just for spectacle.
It produces real thrust, sends flames through a functioning afterburner, and moves like any street-legal vehicle.
Before the drive, the team fixed an oil pressure issue caused by a backward pump, installed a replacement fuel controller, and adjusted the lines to get everything running properly.

Once the turbine car was prepped, it was started and sent straight into traffic.
It idled at around 45mph thanks to the thrust from the jet engine alone.
Despite its aggressive setup, the car handled normally and stayed quiet enough inside for a basic conversation.

Partway through the run, the Chevy Camaro lost power after being mistakenly knocked into reverse, which led to a brief flame-out.
It restarted on the spot and continued to the drive-thru, where the team tried to place an order.
The sound of the jet engine made communication difficult, and when they were finally heard, they were told the McFlurry machine was down.
No Ice Cream, Plenty of Fire
The afterburner on the turbine car shot flames from the rear bumper, which eventually showed signs of heat damage from multiple bursts.
Some minor restarts were required during the trip, but the Chevy Camaro held oil pressure and stayed operational throughout. Nothing had to be shut down or towed.

This test run was the first time the turbine car had been driven extensively on public roads.
It stopped for fuel, navigated traffic, and restarted multiple times with no major failure.
The combination of jet engine thrust and street-ready functionality makes this Chevy Camaro a rare example of a build that actually works in the real world.

The only thing that didn’t work was the ice cream machine.
Which sadly meant that after putting the turbine car through its paces, the team left without the McFlurry they came for.
The Chevy Camaro handled the heat. The dessert didn’t.
