Two decades after one man’s beloved Chevy Corvette C3 went missing, a diving team in Portland rescued it from the bottom of a lake.

This Corvette was once the dream car of a Portland man – and to little surprise as the yellow-hued sports car would have been the talk of the town back in the noughties.

However, the Sheriff’s department revealed that it was reported as stolen and never recovered.

Two decades later, one rescue team did the unthinkable and pulled the classic out of its prime Atlantis parking spot.

Unfortunately, cars don’t swim like fish. So it’s fairly common to find them at the bottom of lakes and rivers.

Whether it’s being swept away by hurricanes and floods, or simply being dumped, a number of cars have been lost to the wet element.

This particular soggy vehicle is suspected to have been a result of an alleged robbery 20-30 years ago and dumped in the lake afterward.

Recovery experts at Adventures With Purpose and local volunteers at Elite Towing partnered to recover it.

The Corvette C3 was found at the bottom of the lake in very rough conditions. It was covered in dirt, inside and out, which acted like an anchor.

The team revealed that the Sheriff’s department had tried to recover the car once before. But that attempt failed when they couldn’t get it over a log, breaking the wheel in the process.

However, these experts came with more equipment and the Chevy was soon dis-log-ed.

With the savvy use of ‘lift bags’, the team managed to get the car upright, before attaching the towing apparatus and dragging it out.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Chevy Corvette C3 has seen better days..

For a start, it was missing the wheel that the Sherriff’s crew yanked off. But the majority of the front end was also completely ragged and bent.

As to what happened to the Chevy after the rescue, the next chapter wasn’t revealed.

But we’d like to think that Elite Towing attempted to track down the original owner to see whether they would like to restore it or ship it off to scrap.

Similarly destroyed cars have been restored before, such as the flooded yellow Porsche 993 which made a dramatic recovery.

What would you do? Restore and revive, or scrap and take the cash?
