The 2025 Corvette ZR1 has the largest twin turbos ever fitted to a passenger car.
The 2025 Corvette ZR1 is set to be the most powerful ‘Vette we’ve ever seen offering more than 1,000 horsepower.
The upcoming Chevy was unveiled back in July with the marque declaring it would be fitted with ‘the most powerful’ V8 engine ever produced from an American auto manufacturer.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has a powerful V8
“The team that revolutionized Corvette with mid-engine architecture took on another challenge: take ZR1 to the next level,” Chevy vice president Scott Bell said while unveiling the car.
“Corvette ZR1 is about pushing the envelope with raw power and cutting-edge innovation.”
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s 5.5 liter V8 is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and cranks out 1,064 horsepower at 7,000rpm and 828lbs-ft of torque.
That super powerful engine is boosted by BorgWarner 76-millimeter twin turbos – the largest twin turbos ever to be fitted on a passenger car.
BorgWarner announced the news in a press release, saying its twin turbocharges use a special ball bearing system that enables ‘faster response time, higher durability, and limited noise ’.
What’s not to love?
“We are proud to secure this contract and support General Motors in making the most powerful Corvette ever built,” BorgWarner Vice President Dr Volker Weng said in a statement.
“This technology has been in the works for some time now and to see it come to fruition is both exciting and fulfilling.”
It sure is.
The car can hit speeds over 346km/h
Designed and built in the US, the turbochargers have been specially crafted to withstand ‘extremely high temperatures with zero-clearance heat shielding on the turbine housing’.
This helps to both improve thermal efficiency and prevent excessive engine compartment temperatures.
So, all in all, it’s a pretty impressive bit of kit.
Of course, all that power translates to speed, and during development, the 2025 Corvette ZR1 hit speeds in excess of 346km/h (215mph) and will be able to run the quarter mile with a GM-estimated sub-10 second time.
Told you it was impressive.
Not only that, but as the ZR1 is a Corvette it boasts eye-catching good looks.
The Corvette ZR1 makes use of plenty of carbon fiber elements, such as a front splitter, rocker molding, and side intakes.
Chevy also decided to use the car to reintroduce the historic and iconic Corvette split window.
The design was last seen on the C2-generation ‘Vettes and not only provides a slick style statement but also helps increase heat extraction from the engine compartment.
Pricing for the ZR1 is yet to be announced but it has been reported it could cost around $150,000.
