One particularly tricky Chevy Impala parked in Minnesota was actually this man’s first ride, but quickly became his ‘worst car nightmare’.
After sadly selling his 1970 Chevy Impala, he saw it being sold on eBay in 2022 – he knew it was his because it had his childhood bedroom carpet in the footwell – and he also knew he had to buy it.
However, not long after buying it, he decided to relist it as the dream of getting his first-ever car back very quickly became what he described as the ‘worst car nightmare’.
The initial repair costs on top of the car purchase started to stack up – he received a $25K bill on a car that needed a full overhaul and still broke down on the drive home.

A dream very quickly became the ‘worst car nightmare’
It seems like nothing short of a dream to find your beloved first-ever car when you’re scrolling on the internet. And for this buyer, he even saw the carpet from his childhood bedroom was still in the car’s footwells.
When he saw that both his childhood and his teenage years were preserved in the 1970 Chevy Impala, he knew he had to buy it and bring it back home.
The buyer decided that his old friend needed the star treatment and a complete restoration. So he dropped $25K on a full mechanical refresh.
But on the short four-mile drive back, he realized the car had the wrong torque converter. And a driveshaft that was too long for the car.
At which point, the Chevy Impala broke down, and the owner still had $22k left on his bill to pay.

The Chevy Impala went straight back to eBay
The Chevy Impala still needs another complete overhaul on top of the already huge amount the owner spent restoring his old car.
And unfortunately, the old owner decided it was time to say goodbye to his old Chevy Impala again. He re-listed it on eBay with the immortal words, “No reserve, I want it out of my life.”
Turns out the price of nostalgia is over $30K. It’s a sad day as the Chevy Impala is going to be sold by the same owner for the second time. Hopefully, it’ll find a new owner who’s willing to put in the investment.
