YouTuber uncovers a truly one-of-a-kind Ford

Ryan Brutt runs his own YouTube channel called Auto Archaeology.

Ryan describes himself as being, ‘an automotive archaeologist’, traveling around the United States to unearth the most unique cars and barn finds.

In a recently uploaded video, Ryan traveled to the Windy City – Chicago, Illinois.

He travelled to Chicago to meet a car collector named Mark, who claimed to have a unique, Italian concept car.

Ryan promises his viewers that they will be ‘blown away.’

In fact, he compares it to ‘being like a seven-year-old kid in a toy store.’

Ryan discovers 1960s Ford concept car

After exchanging pleasantries, the group heads inside Mark’s garage.

After noticing a BMW Z4, as well as a plethora of motorcycles and bicycles, a car catches the group’s gaze.

A small, brown, unique hatchback car lying in the corner of Mark’s garage.

Mark explains that he bought the car at a Ford Motor Company auction in Michigan in 2002.

Ford was auctioning off 50 concept cars for charity at that event.

Mark explains that this car, although having the Blue Oval badge, is actually a Ghia City Car.

Ghia was a design studio based in Italy in the 1960s – Ford was one of their biggest customers.

In the early 1970s, Ford bought the entire company.

Ryan is absolutely amazed and blown away by the car he is looking at.

Background on the Ghia City Car

Ryan provides some very interesting background to the car.

He explains that this particular city car is the only known surviving example in the world.

Ghia was briefly owned by Argentine Alejandro de Tomaso – his company would go on to build the De Tomaso Pantera.

This car was built in the brief intersecting period prior to Ghia’s acquisition by Ford.

It was built with the medieval European city in mind – think cobbled, narrow, winding streets.

Frankly, we think it’s an absolutely awesome find – it is always cool to find unique pieces of automotive history.
