Chinese carmaker BYD has unveiled new technology that has the potential to solve one of the biggest EV flaws.

When it comes to owning a battery-powered car, how far you can get on a charge is vital – alongside how long it takes to charge.

But now, new tech announced by the Chinese car giants could make long wait times a thing of the past.

A charge could even take less time than it takes to get through a McDonald’s drive-thru.

It’s no secret that China is currently dominating the EV world

In America, EVs are mostly dominated by Tesla, with other, more established brands scrabbling to catch up. But in China, it’s a very different story.

In fact, car brand Dongfeng unveiled its own version of the Cybertruck that rivals Tesla – impressive right?

And if that wasn’t enough – the Li Auto L7 is cheaper than both the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Honda Prologue, too.

Talk about rivalry.

But, this new revelation of technology could completely take the electric world by storm. Enter BYD…

Charging just got a whole lot quicker

BYD is the brains behind the Yangwang and the Dolphin EV. It’s now introduced a new charging platform for electric cars that could completely change the game.

Their brand-new battery technology means that cars could charge as quickly as it takes to fill a tank with gas – yes, that quickly.

According to Reuters, The ‘super e-platform will be able to reach ‘peak charging speeds of 1,000 kilowatts (kW), enabling cars that use it to travel 400km or 249 miles on a five-minute charge.’

The news is, no doubt, making electric vehicle owners rejoice – a five-minute wait for your car to fill up with beans is, frankly, amazing.

The tech will no doubt give Tesla a run for its money

Up until this point, Tesla has ruled the roost when it comes to fast charging.

Their Superchargers are known and loved by EV drivers globally – with even Mercedes-Benz EVs set to get access to Tesla’s Supercharging network in the US.

But, from later on this year, the new technology will be available in BYD’s newer Han L saloon and Tang L SUV.

So, Chinese electric drivers unite – this could be revolutionary.

The charging network will also include new electric motors that are set to pump out lashings of energy – making BYD an unstoppable Tesla rival.

We just hope if it’s successful it’ll will travel over to the US as soon as possible.
