Chinese EV company BYD just outsold Tesla in Europe.
Again.
For the second time in the space of a few months, BYD sold more vehicles than Tesla in Europe.
But there’s a silver lining for the American EV brand.

BYD outsold Tesla – again
After nearly a decade of unchallenged dominance in the EV market, Tesla is now regularly being outsold by other manufacturers.
It’s already happened a few times with Chinese EV makers such as BYD and Xiaomi, and even with BMW.
And it’s happening in most markets, with few exceptions.
As for BYD, the Chinese manufacturer outsold Tesla in Europe for the second time in 2025, with 13,503 BEV registrations in July compared to Tesla’s 8,837.

This looks even worse for Tesla than it did in April, when BYD outsold the company by about 100 units.
And the truth is, Tesla simply doesn’t have enough to offer in Europe at the moment, and ultimately, that’s playing a bigger role than anything else.
As a reminder, Cybertruck is still unavailable in Europe, and both Model S and Model X were recently discontinued in the Old Continent, just a few weeks after being updated, which was a bit strange.
There’s a silver lining, though

The first thing worth noting is that Tesla is still the world’s leading EV maker on a global level.
Obviously, there are challenges of various natures in some key markets, but globally, Tesla is still winning.
Even in China, where Tesla recently outsold Xiaomi’s SU7.
And there are a few vehicles that might boost sales in the coming months.
Tesla just launched the new Model Y Performance, which will presumably also be available in the US shortly, and the Model YL, a six-seater version of Model Y for China.
Now we just have to wait for the Roadster.
