Popular Chinese EV company Chery has left the American automotive industry bamboozled as its sub-brand Rely launches the R08 electric pickup that costs just $18,300.

Nowadays, if you want a brand-new electric pickup truck, you’re looking towards the six-figure mark for a Ford F-150 or a Cybertruck.

But for the same price as a Nissan Leaf, and $10K less than any new American-made car in 2025, this electric pickup is blowing the game wide open.

This is the Rely R08, and it’s clear to see why it’s making such a stir.

Chery launches new Rely R08 electric pickup with minuscule price tag

Chery is a renowned Chinese EV manufacturer, becoming the first brand from the country to reach five million exports.

Thanks to its SUVs, whose prices have buyers falling to their knees, the company has gained worldwide recognition for making quality cars for tiny prices.

Now, it’s released an electric pickup that looks to rival some of the most beloved American models ever.

Launched by its brand Rely, the R08 EV offers up to 315 miles of range and can either come with a single-motor RWD powertrain ($18,300) or an improved dual-motor AWD version ($22,800).

The electric pickup is an attractive car too, with its front grille giving off RAM vibes, while its modern glass exterior window and sleek metallic frame are a class above some of the older trucks we see on off-road tracks.

It’s causing a stir in the US

Although it’s likely that the car will never arrive in the US, as the tariffs on Chinese EVs and exports are being blocked by current legislation, the American auto industry is turning blue with envy.

US competitors like the Ford F-150 Lightning – one of the best-selling electric pickups in the country – have starting prices at $54,995, but add-ons usually take these purchases much deeper into the bank.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV costs anywhere between $50,000-$70,000.

For a fraction of the price, the quality looks almost identical.

“Damn. When are the people in Motor City going to get off their ass and give us a similar vehicle for US consumption?” one person posted on a forum.

Chery looks to have hit a home run here, and it will likely prove to be a hit across Asia and Europe.

As for the US, drivers will have to look on with envy from a very big distance.
