The Chinese EV sedan that just shattered the Nürburgring record is the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, a stripped-down electric prototype engineered to push performance to its limits.
In a timed lap around the Nordschleife, the tri-motor test car clocked a blistering 6 minutes and 22 seconds.
That makes it the fastest sedan ever recorded at the track and quicker than any road-legal supercar, electric or combustion-powered.
Only three purpose-built race cars have ever gone faster.

How the Xiaomi SU7 made a world-beating pace
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype was modified specifically for the Nürburgring.
It was fitted with racing slicks, a full roll cage, and extensive weight reduction measures that stripped it of any non-essential features.
Beneath the minimalist shell sits a tri-motor system producing 1,548 horsepower, capable of launching the car from zero to 62 mph in just 1.98 seconds.
That output, paired with advanced aerodynamics and optimized cooling, delivered a Nürburgring record lap under cool and dry conditions.

By beating its own previous lap time from 2024 by 24 seconds, Xiaomi positioned its electric prototype ahead of every supercar ever to run an officially timed lap at the circuit.
Only the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, the Volkswagen ID.R, and the Porsche 956 have posted faster times, all of which are race-spec machines.
Xiaomi claims the test car was tuned under ideal conditions to maximise grip and thermal efficiency, both essential for sustained EV performance.
To mark the occasion, Xiaomi is launching a Nürburgring edition of the SU7 Ultra for the road.

It includes elements from the record-setting prototype, such as a carbon hood, carbon roof, carbon underbody panels, and a lightweight suspension setup.
The cabin features Sparco racing seats with six-point harnesses and Nürburgring embroidery.
The car sits on 21-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli Trofeo RS tires.
Only 100 units will be made, with pricing starting from approximately $112,000.
Chinese EV sedan market continues pushing global limits
Xiaomi’s lap time is part of a growing trend. The Chinese EV sedan segment is no longer focused solely on affordability or range.
High-performance engineering is becoming a priority, and the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra proves that Chinese brands can set benchmarks on the world’s most demanding test circuits.
While the SU7 Ultra Nürburgring edition will be sold exclusively in China, its lap time gives Xiaomi international visibility.

Other Chinese automakers like BYD and Nio are also moving into the high-performance space, developing electric prototypes designed to rival the best from Germany, Italy, and the US.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s Nürburgring run was not just a showcase of engineering, but a statement of intent.
It signaled that China was ready to lead in more than just production volume.
Future rivals may still come from Europe, but they will now have to contend with Nürburgring record breaking competition from China as well.
