The lesser-spotted icon that is the Bugatti EB110 was just snapped cruising down the highway in the Netherlands, but it’s drawing attention for all the wrong reasons.

Spotting a Bugatti out in the wild is quite the accomplishment, unless you’re in Dubai or at a supercar meet.

Most people will go a lifetime without seeing one in the flesh.

But when you do, you hope it’s dressed up in the appropriate attire.

Bugatti EB110 spotted in Europe makes rookie blunder

The Bugatti EB110 is arguably the most important car ever made by the brand.

If it weren’t for this 1990s icon, we wouldn’t have had the Veyron, and the butterfly effect leading to the record-breaking Chiron Super Sport.

Only 139 units were ever made, and of them, around 30 were the Super Sport version. Most of those are now collector’s items.

Which makes spotting one out in the open quite a phenomenon.

Unfortunately for this Bugatti EB110 Super Sport owner in the Netherlands, he made a rookie error that was instantly picked up by fellow drivers.

After posting a picture of the Bugatti EB110 on Reddit, this supercar enthusiast was informed that the driver had actually left the fuel cap wide open.

“Yesterday I saw a Bugatti EB110 Super Sport on the highway here in the Netherlands, what an incredible spot! You really don’t see these often. I think Michel Perridon is the owner. By the way, is it just me or does it look like the fuel cap is open?” the Redditor said.

Others agreed.

“Honestly, it might be. I would imagine the mpg is horrendous, too,” one comment read.

Another added, “Talk about a gas guzzler.”

An unfortunate look for an endangered icon

Despite being one of the best cars of the 1990s, this particular Bugatti EB110 could actually be causing a fair bit of damage to its engine.

The car boasts two fuel tanks that feed into the V12, but if one of them is empty, it only runs on six cylinders, which is allowed, but it’s not healthy with such high RPMs.

Still, if you can overlook the slight fuel cap issue, spotting a Bugatti EB110 in the open and driving alongside it is quite an incredible moment to enjoy.

According to Reddit, the owner is Dutch engineer Michel Perridon, who owns a string of iconic cars from the Bugatti fleet.

The gas-draining EB110 joins esteemed company, as the entrepreneur recently bought the one-off Bugatti Brouillard.

Both of these sit pretty in his collection that also features a Chiron Super Sport 300+, a Type 57, 45, and 32, and multiple Veyrons.
