BYD made incredible claims regarding its fast-charging system, and this YouTuber traveled from Colorado to China because he didn’t believe those claims.
When people are skeptical about something, they generally either ask Google or maybe AI.
But nope, this guy actually decided to travel halfway across the world to find out the truth.
And he genuinely couldn’t believe what he found.
The brand’s fast-charging system is wild
BYD has been everywhere over the last few years.
Its sales have been skyrocketing both in the UK and in South America, and the brand has officially become the world’s biggest EV seller.
There are two main reasons why BYD is on the rise at the moment.

First, they make all kinds of cars and they’re very efficient when it comes to managing production and supply chain issues and dynamics.
The second thing, and perhaps the most important component of their success, is that these vehicles are technically very sound.
Among other things, BYD has been pioneering fast-charging system that promises an (almost) full charge in a matter of minutes.
Almost at parity with gas cars and hydrogen cars.
That’s what Kyle from Out of Spec Reviews wanted to find out for himself.
And that’s why he decided this was worth a trip from Colorado to China.

The Gen 2 Blade Battery was at the root of this investigative trip.
Apparently, BYD has invented a new battery that combines incredible charging speeds with high energy density.
So you get good range and excellent charging times.
According to BYD, this allows you to charge your EV from 10 percent to 70 percent in less than five minutes and 10 to 97 in nine minutes.
Even in below-freezing temperatures, the battery reportedly gets to a full charge within 12 minutes.
For the sake of this test, Kyle used a crashed Denza Z9 GT, and the result was impressive.
The results

In the real-world test, the results was even better than expected.
Charging the battery to 80 percent only took five minutes, while reaching 97 percent took eight minutes.
In theory, it should have taken nine minutes.
It was also notable how quiet the whole charging process was.
“That is just the hardcore smackdown to any excuse to not drive an EV in terms of road trip time, daily charging time. This is a gas car now,” Kyle declared.
“I feel like there were some big moments in the EV transition over the years… This is deserving of any of those big moments.”
Clearly, the trip from Colorado to China was worth it.

This just confirms what some people have always maintained.
When it comes to electric cars, we can talk about the lack of engine noise, lifecycle sustainability, and so on and so forth.
And we can also talk about subjective issues – for example, a lot of people feel that EVs are fast but dull, partly because of the lack of a real engine sound.
But when it comes to charging times, it’s just a matter of technological progress – which means it’s only a matter of time.
