Conan O’Brien has gone on the defensive about his Ford Taurus after it received some jabs.

The former late-night host picked up a Ford Taurus in the 1990s when he was making it big in television.

Thirty years on, he still stands by his decision to purchase the car.

Conan O’Brien’s Ford Taurus Defense

On a recent episode of his podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Lisa Kudrow was being interviewed.

The two dated back in the 1990s, and this led them to reminsicing.

In particular, Kudrow remembered his excitement about picking up a Ford Taurus.

The Friends actress recalled: “You were so excited about the Ford Taurus, and I didn’t understand that.”

In joke frustration, O’Brien exclaimed: “It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing!”

Kudrow, along with O’Brien’s co-hosts Sona Movsesian and Matt Gourley, couldn’t help but crack up at his impassioned defense of the Taurus.

O’Brien continued: “It’s a Ford Taurus on the outside, but it’s got an incredible engine and a stick shift.”

A closer look at Conan’s ride

O’brien’s 1992 Taurus SHO was in his possession until around 2020.

It was dark green and had a Yamaha-built V6 engine under the house which packed 220 horsepower.

Despite his impassioned defense of the car, O’Brien did admit he had one issue with his ride.

“When I bought it, I didn’t know how to drive stick,” he admitted.

Although he said he’d bought a manual car because they were cheaper, Kudrow an alternative theory: “Because that’s what men did.

“If you had a fast car, you didn’t get some wimpy automatic transmission.”

O’Brien isn’t the only late night host to have a keen interest in cars.

Jay Leno is renowned for his automobile collection, with his 1987 Lamborghini Countach having over 70,000 miles on it.

If your job involved sitting behind a desk for so many years, you’d want to get out on the open road too.
