A couple in Colorado once landed the ‘deal of the century’ with a single note, as a stunning $10 railroad landed in their laps.

What can you get for $10 nowadays? A handful of chocolate bars, if you’re lucky. A tiny injection of gas for a cross-town errand run. A half-decent air freshener for your car?

Well, back in the 80s Ken and Stephanie Olsen netted the ‘deal of the century’ by spending a mere tenner.

For just $10, the husband and wife landed an entire 13-mile railroad and its accompanying steam trains.

Historic American $10 railroad sold in ‘deal of the century’

As reported by Fox News’ Dan Daru in November, Colorado couple Ken and Stephanie Olsen once bought the inactive railroad for just a tenner.

Sold as a ‘tax write-off’ by the Burlington Northern Railroad, the Olsen couple magically landed this incredible deal which included two locomotive trains, eight flat cars, five flat cars, five caboose, the old railroad for the trains to run on, and a roundhouse.

Now, this isn’t quite the state-of-the-art comfort blanket that is the new LA to Vegas super train, but it is now a daytime trip attraction that serves as a business in Denver.

Railroad bargain now operates as an 1880s time capsule

The $10 railroad now sees thousands of customers a year board its locomotives as the rustic train takes multiple day trips a week.

History has been tucked into this train in spades, as the Leadville railroad route remains a colorful and scenic trip untouched by time, while the carts travel at the 15mph cap that was used in 1880.

Customers will get the full locomotive experience, from the smell of burning coal to the clickety-clack of the wheels steaming their way into Denver.

Somewhere there is a Sheldon Cooper clone salivating.

For the Olsen’s though, this really is the deal of a century, as maintenance costs now come as the only backflow against the customers’ tickets. A real bargain.
