The massive overhaul of an abandoned superyacht was already underway, as a couple worked toward their goal of living at sea permanently.
In a relaxed livestream from Bossier City, Louisiana, they let viewers in on what had been a long, hectic day behind the scenes.
The duo behind the YouTube channel Onboard Tangaroa – The Never-Ending Sea Trial gave plenty of honest insights into their ambitious project.
But beneath the casual tone, it was clear the scale of what they were attempting was anything but small.

It’s vital to prepare for emergencies when you aim to live at sea
The update came as the couple visited Envoltz, a relatively low-profile but highly capable engineering company specializing in advanced power systems.
Now, you may not have heard of the company.
However, all you need to know is that its work in oil, gas, and utility sectors had equipped it with the kind of rugged, real-world experience the couple needed.
From battery systems to hybrid generators and even microgrid setups, the team at Envoltz appeared more than capable of handling the complexities of a fully self-sufficient superyacht.

However, nothing had been finalized.
The visit had been part of a broader auditing process, with the couple carefully evaluating whether Envoltz could deliver not just performance, but long-term reliability.
After all, revamping their abandoned superyacht to cross oceans required planning for worst-case scenarios, including system failures far from land.

As they explained during the livestream, downtime at sea isn’t just inconvenient; it could be dangerous.
One of the most exciting prospects they discussed had been the possibility of working with a single supplier for the entire onboard power system.
That approach would have allowed everything, from the battery bank to the generators, to be designed, assembled, and tested as one cohesive unit before installation.

It was a streamlined solution that could have saved time and reduced complications later, though it also required a great deal of trust.
Finding the right partners for their abandoned superyacht project
The technical side of the project had been just as fascinating.
The couple had leaned toward a hybrid setup featuring DC generators, electric drive motors, and even a backup hydraulic system in case of emergencies.

They also highlighted challenges around sourcing specific components, such as custom double-shaft motors, which could have delayed timelines if not managed carefully.
These were the kinds of decisions that could make or break a project of this scale.
The duo also hinted at upcoming trips to audit more companies, including a visit to China, as they continued searching for the right partners.
