A Ford Focus RS just pulled off the automotive equivalent of a boomerang, leaving a used car dealer scratching his head.
In a twist that sounds almost too strange to be true, the same car was sold… and then bought back by its original owner just days later.
It’s the kind of situation most dealers never encounter.
However, this happened for a very good reason.
The Toyota GR Yaris was objectively a better car
The story, shared by YouTube channel MP Auto Group, began with a customer trading in his beloved Focus RS as part of a deal for a newer vehicle: a Toyota GR Yaris.

On paper, it made perfect sense.
The GR Yaris is widely praised for its razor-sharp handling, lightweight design, and rally-inspired engineering.
For many enthusiasts, it represents a step forward in performance and precision.
But cars, as any enthusiast will tell you, aren’t always about logic.
The Focus RS, finished in the iconic Nitrous Blue, is powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine producing 350 horsepower in stock form, paired with all-wheel drive and a manual gearbox.

This particular example had been modified, pushing output closer to 400 horsepower thanks to upgrades like a full exhaust system and tuning.
Perhaps more importantly, it had plenty of character.
This was why after spending just a few days with the GR Yaris, the customer began to feel something wasn’t quite right.
Despite its impressive capability, it lacked the loud, playful, slightly unruly personality of the RS.
The regret set in quickly, so he made the call.
The used car dealer came up with a solution
Now, here’s where things get complicated.
The dealer had already prepped the Focus RS for resale, having completed detailing, inspections, and bunch of additional work.
Meanwhile, the GR Yaris had officially changed ownership, adding another name to its logbook.
Unfortunately for the customer, simply reversing the deal wasn’t an option.
While this seemed like a tricky situation, the two parties eventually worked out a compromise.

The customer would buy back his old car, but also cover the costs associated with the dealership’s time, effort, and preparation.
Essentially, he paid a hefty price for a one-week ‘rental’ of the GR Yaris.
Surprisingly, both sides walked away satisfied.
The used car dealer recouped his costs and retained a saleable GR Yaris, while the customer was reunited with the car he couldn’t stop thinking about.
While the deal obviously wouldn’t make sense to most people, you can’t deny that the heart wants what it wants.
Sometimes, the car you let go is the one you end up chasing right back.
