New figures show that the Tesla Cybertruck had more new registrations than the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T.
Introduced as an EV concept back in November 2019, the Cybertruck entered production last year at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.
And it’s safe to say they proved to be a hit – so much so, that prior to the delivery event on November 30, 2023, Tesla was forced to temporarily shut down preorders.

New registrations show the Cybertruck is selling well
Upon its release, the design of the Cybertruck was a bit of a talking point as people finally saw the eagerly anticipated EV out on the streets for the first time – but the all-electric has amassed an army of fans.
Part of the appeal for many new owners seems to be the Cybertruck’s customizability as we’ve seen all manner of strange and unusual mods including one that looks like a giant mirror and another that has been fitted with huge snowmobile tracks.
The Dubai police force has even added a modified Cybertruck to its fleet of cars.
And it seems that popularity is going strong, with new data from S&P Global Mobility showing a spike in sales.
Although Tesla doesn’t share individual model sales, registration figures reveal that more than 3,900 Cybertrucks were registered in May this year.
The EV outperformed F-150 Lightning in May
This means, that registrations for the Cybertruck far exceeded the Ford F-150 Lightning, which had 2,353 registrations in May; and the Rivian R1Ts, which had 1,237, according to Road and Track.
Meanwhile, the Tesla truck soared ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and the GMC Hummer EV, which had only 668 and 359 May registrations respectively.
However, while the May registrations will have come as good news to Tesla boss Elon Musk; it’s the only month this year that the Cybertruck has outperformed Ford.
From January to May, Ford had 13,443 registrations, compared to Tesla’s 7,879 during the same time period. Rivian sits in third place, with 3,881 registrations between January and May.
Musk has previously said that Tesla will one day be creating ‘roughly’ 250,000 units a year, while drone footage from earlier this year appeared to suggested production had been seriously ramped up at the Gigafactory.
