A Dodge Demon 170 took on a Tesla Model S Plaid in Florida in a drag race to settle the gas versus EV battle once and for all.
YouTube channel DragTimes set the drag race up to put the rivalry to rest.
There was a lot riding on this race, and these were two extremely powerful cars.
While we can’t guarantee this would end the gas vs EV debate for good, the race was certainly still worth watching.

Demon Dodge 170 versus Tesla Model S Plaid
The two cars had impressive stats to their names.
For the Demon Dodge, it had a horsepower of 1,250, which was higher than the Plaid’s 1,020HP.

Neither were nothing to sneeze at, but it definitely looked like the Dodge had the edge.
Brooks Weisblat, the channel’s host, wondered whether ‘the ultimate American muscle car [could] take down my daily commuter car in an all-out drag race?’
The cars would be racing a 1/4 mile, and Weisblat was already anticipating that the Dodge would be bringing its A-game.
You could say it would be like Hell on wheels.
On a practice drive, the Dodge clocked in 9.12 seconds on 147mph, which made him nervous about his Tesla’s chances.
“I’m going like a tenth slower,” he lamented.

“Hopefully pressure on the line gets to him.”
Things may not have been looking great, but drag races have had surprising results before.
You may recall the time a Ford F-150 XL pulled off a David vs Goliath victory against a Shelby Mustang GT500.
And who could forget the time a Tesla Cybertruck took on a Lamborghini Aventador in the streets of Virginia?
Essentially, anything can happen in a drag race.
How did things go down on the track?
The nerve-wracking moment of truth came – and the Tesla had a seeming disadvantage.
The Dodge got an immediate head start and maintained that until the end.

On their first go, the Demon ran 9.18 seconds at 146mph, whilst the Tesla did 9.25 seconds at 149mph.
As the saying goes, close but no cigar.
But they were facing off three times, so the Plaid had a chance of redemption in the next two quarter milers.
Round two saw the Plaid take the lead and seize victory for itself, leaving the Demon in the dust.
The time around, the Tesla clocked in 9.22 seconds at 150mph.
By comparison, the Demon put in a comparatively meager showing of 9.71 seconds at 146mph.
So, they’d each won a race.
It would all come down to the final round.
Who would emerge victorious?

After the Demon took 40 minutes to cool down, it was time for the final stretch.
Although the Tesla again got off to a better start, but this was the tightest race of all.
Ultimately, the Plaid came out on top and was the champion, with two races out of three won.
