The Dodge Durango Hellcat has been banned in these US states, and it’s all to do with keeping emissions on the lower side of the scale.
The car brand will still sell other models, but due to the sheer power of the Durango Hellcat and the R/T, some gearheads in certain states won’t be able to secure them.
Over 15 states will be affected, including Washington, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, thanks to officials adopting the rules.
The Hellcat, though, remains one of the most iconic offerings from the car company.

US residents could be in for a shock as the Dodge Durango Hellcat has been banned in selected states
Dodge fans across a number of states in the US could be in for a sad surprise, as it turns out that the Dodge Durango has been banned.
The Dodge Durango Hellcat is a powerful car, and for the new 2026 release, the company has given the Durango models a V8 Hemi engine, but for two powertrains of the Dodge bunch, there are some restrictions.
Even though the engine power is impressive, it proves to be simply too much on the emissions scale.

In fact, thanks to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions standards, the models don’t meet the required standards to be distributed.
The American brand itself even confirmed this.
“The Dodge Durango GT with the 5.7-liter Hemi will be available in all states.
“The Dodge Durango R/T 392 and Durango SRT Hellcat are available in non-CARB states,” a Dodge spokesperson confirmed to Motor1.

States affected consist of Connecticut, Oregon, Rhode Island, California, New Jersey, and Colorado, among many others.
“As we prepare to begin production of the Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak later in Q4 and open for orders of the Durango R/T 392 by the end of the year, we continue to work with CARB on opportunities to sell these two powertrains in all states alongside the 5.7-liter Durango GT,” the official continued.
The Dodge Hellcat is a force to be reckoned with
The Hellcat is an impressive vehicle thanks to its powerful engine, with many fans adding the car to their dream wishlists.
But it’s not just ordinary car fans who think this; some famous faces have found themselves in the driver’s seat too.
For example, NBA star Shaquille O’Neal is a fan of the auto and has made lots of modifications to his Hellcat Challenger for him to fit and for the car to become a beast.
Plus, for those who fancy taking their car off-road and instead sailing into the sunset, then this 700hp Hellcat boat could be the ultimate luxurious pick.
