The road to getting on the road can be a long one.

Learning to drive is fun and exciting, but it can also be pretty daunting.
Even if you’re a natural behind the wheel, sitting the test can be nerve wracking.

Just look at what happened when one US driver attempted to pass a UK test.
But if you’re facing an upcoming driving test, instructor Francis Noakes from the Driving School TV YouTube has shared his most valuable advice.
In the clip, the instructor explained that his ‘golden nugget’ tip wasn’t about skills, maneuvers, or mirror routines.
“People message me and say, ‘I’ve got my test tomorrow, What’s your best advice?’” he said.
“I always say the same thing.”

And it’s all about mindset and confidence.
Instead, it was about something that makes a much bigger difference: your mindset.
Francis explained that by the time you come to book your test, chances are you’re already a pretty solid driver.
He said the real test of the driving test is putting those skills into practice while under pressure.
Drawing on his years of teaching and performing mock driving tests, Francis said those who believe in themselves heading into the test tend to pass more easily.
Of course, feeling confident is easier said than done, but the driving instructor had a top tip to help.
He recommends standing in front of a mirror and asking yourself: “Can you drive?”

After this, think about what is actually required to pass a driving test – parking, roundabouts, emergency braking – and checking that you feel confident in all of those areas.
He also suggested reframing it in your mind from a ‘driving test’ to simply ‘driving’.
He also had some tips if things don’t quite go your way
In an ideal world, you’d sail through your test on your first attempt, but failure happens to the best of us – let’s not forget it took SpongeBob more than a quarter of a century to finally get his license, and a woman in South Korea failed more than 950 times before she got her pass.
Thankfully, Francis also has some solid advice for what happens if you don’t pass.
He recommends having a Plan B in place before you sit your test to help alleviate pressure going in.
This can be as simple and straightforward as telling yourself that if you do fail, you can just re-sit the test.
“Please don’t go in thinking that this is your last chance,” he added.
“That it’s game over.”
By having a plan in place before you even take the test, you’ll calm your nerves and also be better prepared whatever the outcome.
