Driving seven miles in this Honda S2000 CR wiped $30,000 of its value

This head-turning and rare 2009 Honda S2000 CR saw $30,000 wiped off its value after being driven just seven miles.

The Honda S2000 was launched back in 1999 in honor of the marque’s 50th anniversary.

In total, just over 110,000 S2000s were built before production wound down in 2009.

Amongst them was this stunning special edition S2000 Club Racer – one of only 699 ever made.

The Honda S2000 CR had very low mileage

The S2000 CR came with a 2.4 liter VTEC, which is capable of producing 237 horsepower and stood apart from other S2000s thanks to improved suspension, wider back tires, and a bespoke aerodynamic package.

Given that fewer than 700 were ever produced, you don’t see many S2000 CRs out and about – but this one went up for sale in 2022.

The S2000 CR was in great shape, with an attention-grabbing yellow paint job and near-mint interiors – not only that but it had only been very lightly used.

Now, you don’t need us to tell you that low mileage is a particularly impressive quality when it comes to rare or valuable cars – take a look at this 1957 Plymouth Belvedere that only clocked up 8,050km (5,000 miles) in 40 years, or this 1978 Corvette that has somehow only done 25km (16 miles).

So when the previous owner of this 2009 Honda S2000 CR wanted to sell up he was almost guaranteed to land a good price due to the fact it had just 198km (123 miles) on the odometer.

It sold a couple of years later for a lot less

The car was eventually snapped up for $200,000, and you’d assume that would be the last we heard of it, right?

However, the car in question appeared on an online auction site once again earlier this month – this time around it had 209km (130 miles) on the clock.

It’s unclear why – after spending $200,000 on the car – the new owner drove it just seven miles or why they decided to sell up after a relatively short period of ownership.

But what we do know is that the car sold for an awful lot less than it did in 2022 – prior to those additional seven miles.

Going under the hammer this time, the S2000 CR hit a maximum bid – and was sold – for $170,000.

Meaning those additional seven miles managed to knock a whopping $30,000 off the value of the car.

Ouch.
