The buzz around upcoming affordable Tesla EVs just received a jolt of electricity with a drone sighting of a potential new prototype.

A longtime Tesla watcher and drone pilot recently flew his drone over the Fremont factory and captured some pretty exciting footage.

In particular, his April 17th flyover revealed an unfinished vehicle parked next to fully-built Model Y and Model S units.

This sparked rumours that this could be the elusive ‘Model 2’ or ‘Model Q’ that fans have been waiting for.

The sighting

While the drone footage on April 17 may not have seemed unusual, eagle-eyed viewers may realise that the unfinished car in the video has some differences compared to those around it.

According to the footage taken by Met God in Wilderness, the roof appears to be narrower than the surrounding Model Ys, and its silhouette screamed crossover vibes.

Fast forward to April 24, and the intrigue deepened.

Another mystery vehicle was spotted, one with a more sloping rear, as seen through its draped covering.

Whatever the car (or prototype) actually is, one thing is for sure: it’s got fans guessing whether Tesla is finally dropping a new, more affordable model.

A more affordable Tesla

Tesla fans and investors have long pressed the company for a more affordable model.

During Tesla’s Q1 earnings call, the company finally announced ‘plans for new vehicles, including more affordable models’, stating that the plan was for production to start in the first half of 2025.

Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy specifically stated that new models coming out in the coming months would share a resemblance to their current cars.

“Models that come out in next months will be built on our lines and will resemble, in form and shape, the cars we currently make. And the key is that they will be affordable, and you will be able to buy one,” Moravy said.
