It appears than an electric Subaru Impreza WRX concept could be on the way.

The Japanese brand has, as a whole, enjoyed a thoroughly decent year in 2025.

But it has continued to suffer sales slumps in the American market.

However, rumors have been building about an electric Subaru Impreza WRX that aims to preserve rally heritage – minus the gas.

Could Subaru be reviving its most legendary nameplate?

Subaru is a brand that is renowned for stability and reliability.

Many of its models, such as the Forrester and the Outback, are considered excellent cars to buy.

But the current Subaru range isn’t exactly what you’d call…exciting.

There might be a chance, however, that all of that is about to change.

The internet rumor mill has been doing its thing once again – and this one is interesting.

It appears that the car world is desperate for the marque to revive two of its most iconic nameplates.

More specifically, it wants the Japanese brand to reunite the two together.

And those nameplates, of course, are ‘Impreza’ and WRX’.

Several online posters and creators have been curious as to what this new car might look like.

And one of them has offered their own interpretation of the vision.

Avarvarii has just created an epic post on Instagram.

And it showcases what this new Subaru Impreza WRX EV would look like.

The post mentions that recapturing the fun factor in an EV is a big challenge.

But Subaru is reportedly confident that it can crack the puzzle.

Impreza WRX dominates the ice and the gravel of WRC

Some younger generations might not be aware of just how important the Impreza WRX actually was.

Well, allow us to explain – because it was brilliant.

If you are under the age of 30, you might not be aware of Subaru’s legacy in the World Rally Championship (WRC).

Trust us, you should – because the Japanese brand used to dominate the WRC.

Despite being involved on-and-off during the 1980s, it wasn’t until 1990 that history was made.

Subaru Tecnica International (STI), was Subaru’s motorsports division.

It partnered with Prodrive, a British motorsport firm, to enter Subaru Legacy RS in WRC.

Its first two seasons saw Subaru achieve some successes – but only entered half of the races in 1992.

1993 saw the first full season of WRC action for the now iconic, sadly deceased Colin McRae.

This year also saw more history – with the introduction of the legendary Impreza WRX.

The Impreza WRC would replace the Legacy RS from 1993 onwards.

The Prodrive-developed car came with a turbocharged, 2.0 liter, flat-four engine.

Its EJ20 engine was heavily modified, ultimately producing around 300bhp.

1995 would see incredible success, with McRae winning the Drivers’ Championship that year.

It would also see the marque win the first of its three consecutive Constructors’ titles.

Englishman Richard Burns would win the Drivers’ Championship in 2001.

Norwegian driver Petter Solberg would win the last ever Subaru-powered Drivers’ title in 2003.

Sadly, due to the Financial Crisis of 2008, Subaru would bow out of WRC.

But the Impreza WRX nameplate remains one of the most beloved in the history of motorsport.

To many, the blue-and-yellow liveried Impreza WRX is a throwback to a legendary era in WRC.

It would be fantastic to see the nameplate return for a new generation.
