Elon Musk promises the Tesla Semi Truck will start shipping this year already

Elon Musk says the Tesla Semi Truck will start shipping as early as this year.
The Tesla CEO also doubled down on his promise to deliver the Cybertruck by next year when he announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday.
But users were quick to throw doubt on the billionaire’s promises.

“It’s always end of this year, and then end of next year,” one said.
Others took issue with the 800 kilometer (500-mile) range of the all-electric semi truck.

“Sorry, but 500 mile range isn’t enough for a long haul semi. I live in Alaska and 500 miles is barely the range from Anchorage to Fairbanks – the two major hub cities,” he said.
“Need to push those to at least 750 miles.”
Another user defended the mile range on the Tesla truck, saying it was “outstanding versus other commercial EV trucks on the market”.
Musk first revealed the Semi in 2017, promising it would shake up the trucking industry.
Tesla Semi truck price
The Tesla Semi truck will cost about $180,000 USD for 800km (500 mile) range and $150,000 USD for one with 483km (300) mile range.
Tesla requires a $5000 credit card deposit upfront and a further $15,000 by wire transfer within the following 10 days to secure the order.
Tesla started taking orders soon after it was announced, suggesting it would go on the market as early as 2019.
But just like the Cybertruck, it was pushed back.
So, we’re not sure how much weight to give Musk’s latest promise.
Nevertheless, we’re holding out hope.
Walmart, FedEx and PepsiCo are all believed to have placed orders for it.
The Semi was in fact spotted driving along a highway in Palo Alto in June.
Drivers took video footage of the rig, also capturing its unique sound, or lack thereof.
