An energy expert has debunked a common misconception about electric vehicles (EVs) and gas-powered cars.

Australian electrification expert Sarah Aubrey explained in exact detail why electric vehicles are better for the environment than traditional cars with internal combustion engines (ICE), going beyond the obvious reasons.

In a TikTok video, Sarah showed a chart comparing the manufacturing and lifetime emissions of both EVs and ICE cars, and the difference was massive.

Debunks like these are necessary to make people see the real benefits of EVs and change their perspective for good.

Energy experts burst a huge myth related to EVs

In the video uploaded on her electrify_this account, Sarah revealed that while the EVs may require more resources to build, they end up emitting much fewer pollutants over their lifespan.

This makes them more eco-friendly overall.

So far, so obvious, right?

People against EVs usually point out the energy used to charge electric vehicles.

However, the Environmental Protection Agency confirmed that even when you factor in the energy used to charge EVs, they still have a smaller carbon footprint than gas-powered cars.

Additionally, it’s a huge cost saver too.

In a test done by a YouTuber, the cost of charging a Cybertruck for 31 days came out to be just $32.

But it’s not just about saving the planet or a few bucks – it’s also about a need for speed.

To put it plainly, EVs are fast.

The Aspark OWL SP600 prototype, for instance, can reach an incredible 273 mph, making it one of the fastest cars in the world – never mind EVs.

Big car brands are not missing the chance to hop on the electric bandwagon either.

Mercedes-AMG, for example, is developing an electric supercar inspired by an iconic concept car.

A mixed bag of reactions to the video

However, not everyone is sold on EVs just yet.

Some TikTok commenters expressed concerns.

One person said: “Let’s look at EVs after 20 years, then you will see the problem.”

Another raised the issue of emissions from charging, asking: “Are you ignoring the emissions from all the energy to recharge it every night?”

No, that’s actually what she was on about.

Despite the naysayers, many people supported Sarah’s points, sharing their own positive experiences.

One commenter proudly said: “We’ve gone electric and use solar panels to charge. Never looked back.”

That’s the way we all need to be headed if we’re going to save the environment.

You might also save yourself a bit of cash along the way.

Everyone is a winner.
