Enzo Ferrari’s son, Piero, has finally waved goodbye to the signature red spec with his new $2.2 million Daytona SP3.

Ferrari is red, and red is Ferrari. The partnership is iconic.

But is it time that we all moved with the times and ditched the idea that every Ferrari needs to have the bright Rosso hue?

Well, Enzo’s son thinks so.

Enzo Ferrari’s son ditches signature red for custom Daytona SP3

Enzo Ferrari, the co-founder of the fabled car company, left quite a legacy, as was recently portrayed by Adam Driver on Netflix.

But, not everything he left was red. In fact, his company car wasn’t red, and there is a gleaming white namesake car that went on auction in 2022.

It now looks like his son Piero is following suit in breaking away from the Ross color again as he’s now been snapped in a white and blue Daytona SP3.

The custom Daytona SP3 is designed to honor the North American Racing Team – owned by Luigi Chinetti, Ferrari’s North American importer – and uses their colors, which differed from the signature red due to an FIA regulation at the time.

The car cost $2.2 million and was powered by the Daytona’s brutal V12 engine.

It was one of just 599 that will ever be made.

And there’s no denying it’s beautiful.

“I chose a slightly metallic white, a mix of modern technology with memories of the past,” Piero said on Ferrari’s YouTube channel.

The Daytona SP3 is a very limited range and often does vary in color, although red is usually at least an accent.

Take the bespoke SP3 that the Scuderia awarded Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz, which was primarily grey with red touches.

If truth be told, Piero’s Daytona SP3 does come with a red interior, keeping some essence of Ferrari inside it.

But if Enzo Ferrari’s son can start turning up in custom colors, maybe it is time to break the mold and embrace other colors.
