This EV owner took his Tesla Model Y to WeBuyAnyCar for an appraisal, and he probably ended up regretting it.
His Tesla Model Y had originally cost him around $70,000, but the amount he was offered was much, much lower than that.
That’s partly down to the fact that EVs depreciate faster than gas cars.
But there was also something else.

WeBuyAnyCar made him an offer he certainly wasn’t expecting
A YouTuber who goes by the name Harley Perkins on the platform wanted to find out how much his $70,000 Tesla Model Y was worth.
He probably regretted this, though.
According to the assessment made by WeBuyAnyCar, his Tesla has lost around 50 percent of its value.
But that wasn’t the worst news.
Because Perkins also found out his car was in worse shape than he thought.

“The car is now worth £27,132 ($36,800) [because] it’s a Grade 2 vehicle,” the inspector noted.
Being rated Grade 2 means the car shows chips, blemishes, and so on, which came as a surprise to Perkins because he thought the car was spotless.
But apparently it wasn’t.

EVs depreciate faster than gas cars, including Teslas
Electric cars appear to depreciate faster than internal combustion cars.
This is true for high-end EVs such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and even worse when it comes to luxury EVs such as the Porsche Taycan.
There’s a YouTuber in the UK who built his entire channel around his Porsche Taycan precisely for this reason.

Clearly, depreciation is also affecting mainstream vehicles such as the Model Y or Model 3.
What can you do about it?
Good question, mainly because there’s no answer for now.
The truth is, EVs rely on technology that ages very quickly.
You can keep it up to date for a while with OTA (Over-The-Air) updates, but sooner or later, the software that runs them and powers them will become obsolete.
Clearly, the market is taking that into consideration.
