Driving comes with many added costs, and one major fee tends to be car insurance.

For new drivers, this can be a huge worry as, due to their inexperience, quotes can skyrocket.

Don’t fear, though, as one expert from Driving School TV is here to help after drivers wrote in with hacks to help.

In fact, some are simpler than you may think, and are so easy to do that they will become second nature.

Get clearing your browser history when looking for car insurance

The first on the list? Clear your browser history and cookies when looking online at car insurance comparison sites.

Seems simple, right? Well, it turns out that both individual and price comparison sites can track if you have searched for car insurance quotes before, which means prices rise every single time you search.

Put a more experienced driver as the main name on the car insurance policy

We should note here that you should never lie to the insurance company.

That said, the expert vouched that experienced drivers would bring down your costs by a large amount, as would adding others with a good insurance history.

However, if you are the main driver of the vehicle, your name needs to be under the main driver category – as the saying goes, honesty is the best policy.

Get a dashcam fitted in the cabin

“I would concur with that one, that works for me,” said the expert as he shared another useful tip.

He advised that when talking on the phone and sorting out the car insurance, tell the call center that you have a dashcam fitted, and nine times out of 10, the price will be lowered.

Try adding different job roles

Again, we must state that you should not lie on any application,

This one, however, is certainly true, as different jobs carry more expensive car insurance quotes than others, like builders, for example.

So if you have a side hustle, maybe mention that on the application.

Use multiple comparison sites

The bottom line here? Shop around, as one site may have a better deal with your desired insurance broker than others.

It’s better to save a little bit of cash than none at all.

Delay the start date of your car insurance policy

It turns out that if your policy has an imminent start date, you’ll automatically pay more than one starting later.

Even if the start date is just one month away, the price for the year will be a lot less than you’d expect.

Increase your excess payment

This tip sounds more expensive, but it can actually be cheaper in the long run.

The expert suggested increasing the amount you’re willing to pay if an incident were to happen; however, you should ensure that you offset the excess with protection.

Keep your mileage low

Next up, it was suggested to keep your mileage as low as possible, and for owners of a black box, this comes with extra caution, as users can sometimes be charged.

Figures should be realistic, though, to stop any issues further down the line.

Lease a car with cover included

Sometimes, you can lease a car with lots of stuff included, such as insurance, because it could work out a lot cheaper.

These often come with age restrictions, though, so do your research.

Use a new email

Much like clearing history, using a new email could work wonders.

Remember, don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Choose cars in low car insurance groups

Most cars are often grouped, so do your research to save money.

We’re talking about choosing a small Kia over a sprawling Range Rover or Audi.

Add and ask

Finally, if you install extra safety measures, this can keep both you and your money safe.

Plus, if you don’t ask, you don’t get, and join groups to keep costs down, as well as paying annually.

So, there you have it, these tips could save you a ton of cash in the long run.
