Automotive expert High Peak Autos has shattered the biggest myths when it comes to buying used cars from dealerships.
Buying any car can sometimes throw up problems, but especially when it comes to buying a second-hand car that may have had an interesting life.
Over the years, a wide variety of myths have built up about these cars, what dealers do, and how they operate.
But the YouTuber is now revealing the truth behind the biggest myths.
What are the myths around used cars?
“After 15 years in the business, I can honestly tell you what most people think of used car deals simply isn’t true,” said the YouTuber on his More High Peak channel.
The YouTuber has been buying and selling cars since he was 17, so he knows a lot about the buisness.
One of these myths was that car dealerships make thousands of dollars of profit on every car they sell.
“This is probably the most common thing I hear, and that’s not the full story,” the YouTuber said.

Used car dealers work on a roughly 20 percent profit margin.
But as well as the cost of buying the car, dealers have to factor in preparation costs, repairs that are needed, and other things before the car can be sold.
That eats into the 20 percent margin, as do things like overheads, such as electricity bills and staff wages.
Another myth that High Peak explored was that of dealers hiding a lot of faults.
“This gets thrown around a lot, and again, I don’t think that’s true,” he said.
This doesn’t work, because cars have service and mileage records.
He also said no good dealer would want to sell a bad car and risk potential damage to their reputation.
The YouTuber dispelled other myths around car dealers
“Luckily, now this industry is heavily regulated,” the YouTuber said, meaning it’s harder to screw over customers.
Another myth that has become incredibly popular is the one that dealerships are only interested in profits.
Profits are, of course, incredibly important.
But reputations are built on things like customer service, and without that, a dealer won’t sell any cars.

“This one really annoys me,” he said.
“If we only cared about profit, we wouldn’t be in business.”
Long-term survival comes from reputation, and not from making a lot of money.
“Most independent dealers are in it for the long haul,” he added.
What other myths did the YouTuber debunk?
There were plenty of other myths that the YouTuber worked to disprove in his video.
High Peak strongly rejected the myth that dealers knew what would break on used cars.
Given how complex vehicles can be, nobody knows for sure what might break on a car at any given time.
Even cars with immaculate records can sometimes fail soon after they’re sold.
Nobody can predict exactly what will go wrong on a particular car.
It is interesting to see just how many myths there are across the board when it comes to used cars.
But as we see in the video, many of them have no evidence to back them up.
