An extremely rare Bentley has been spotted in the UK – and it turns out it’s one of only nine.

Reddit is a place where mysterious cars are frequently speculated over, so it’s not surprising that this elusive car made its way to the platform.

It was quickly identified by the people of Reddit as a very rare gem indeed.

It was the Bentley Continental GTZ Zagato.

The backstory to the rare Continental GTZ Zagato

From first glance, you might think it’s a vintage car.

With its rounded design and greenish hues, it looks remarkably retro – it wouldn’t look too out of place at a 1950s diner.

But no, the Zagato is from 2006.

Which is 19 years ago… so we suppose it’s not exactly new anymore.

Getting ahold of a Zagato was a tricky process, as you needed to own one already or have a used standard Continental GT, Speed, or Supersport.

If more than nine were required, more would be made, as reported by howmanymade.

Anyone who sent in their used Continental GT, Speed or Supersport would receive a conversion.

A total of 346 materials would be used, with the weight being reduced by 100kg due to the aluminum body panels.

The interior would largely go untouched, but the Bentley front grill would be enlarged.

By the time conversions got done, only the windscreen, A-pillars and headlights would be remain intact from the original form.

The Bentley in question started life as a different car

The car that made its way onto Reddit was originally a red GT.

It was identified remarkably quick by the standards of the site, which has been stumped by cars in the past.

Once it was sent in, it came covered in green, adorned with controversial rear arch ‘spacs’.

This car was the fourth of the nine to be made, and is apparently seen around the UK on a frequent basis.

The Zagato has long been noted to divide opinion, and things were no different in the Reddit comments section.

One user wrote: “F**king rancid is what it is,” whilst another commented: “Rare for a reason, it’s ugly as f**k.”

A fellow Redditor said: “We have a new winner….for the ugliest car ever made.”

That distinction may have to go to this car which was deliberately made to be hideous in a contest set up Jay Leno.

Elsewhere, it was likened as being ‘overcooked’ and looking as if it was ‘having an allergic reaction’.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of love for the car in this sub-forum, so we can’t honestly say opinions were split there.

This isn’t the first time a car has left a sour taste in people’s mouth – does the Yugo SV ring a bell for anybody?
