We know him as Han from Fast & Furious and for his upcoming movie Drifter, but there’s one thing Sung Kang doesn’t get enough credit for: his style.
His signature pose, leaning on a car, coupled with his fashion sense should be talked about more.
Sung Kang teamed up with Xbox and UPRISERS LAB to launch Forza Horizon-themed jackets, and we had the opportunity to have a chat with him.
And some of his answers were quite juicy, including something he had to say about a JDM car he thinks will be the next big thing.
This collab is a great fit as style is clearly important to you, but how much influence do you have over what your character wears on screen?

“Style has always been important to me because clothing helps communicate character before a word is even spoken,” he told Supercar Blondie.
“It tells you something about how a person moves through the world, what they value, what kind of life they’ve lived. Over the years, I’ve definitely become more collaborative with costume designers and filmmakers about those details, especially on projects connected to car culture or identity-driven storytelling.”

“That’s one of the reasons this collaboration felt so natural to me. UPRISERS LAB approached the jackets with the same mindset – every material choice, texture and detail was intentional and tied back to story and atmosphere rather than just aesthetics,” he said.
The way you lean on the RX-7 in Tokyo Drift became iconic. I’m sure you’ve seen the AI trend, how does that feel?

“It’s honestly surreal sometimes,” he admitted.
“You never really know what’s going to stay with people or how certain moments will evolve over time. I think what’s interesting is that audiences today are connecting with that era and that style language in a different way now – especially younger generations discovering Japanese car culture, street racing aesthetics and early-2000s fashion through a more nostalgic lens.”
“Seeing those moments reinterpreted online through AI, edits and fan culture is pretty fascinating because it shows how stories keep evolving long after they’re released,” Kang said.
Back to the collab, what is your favorite car in Forza Horizon 6, and what car would you like to include that isn’t in the game?

“My favorite car is the GR GT cover car. What a great machine. Another great car I’d love to cruise around Forza’s Japan would be the 1972 Ford Maverick,” Kang said, before admitting a certain bias towards the protagonist of Drifter.
“I imagine my allegiance will shift if the Toyota AE86 comes to the game, for obvious reasons would love to see that come to life digitally,” he said.
Let’s talk about Drifter, did you know from the start you wanted ‘Lola’ to be a Trueno, or were there other candidates?
Kang admitted that the choice wasn’t easy, but in the end it felt natural.
“I looked at many cars to see what car felt right to be the star of the film,” he admitted.
“[In the end] the Trueno was the most organic fit.”
He also explained that the car’s nickname, ‘Lola’, is simply a contraction of the car’s name: Corolla.

What is one JDM car that you think is still flying under the radar?
So many JDM icons we’ve seen in Fast & Furious movies absolutely exploded in value.
And, with our Sherlock Holmes hat on, we’re willing to bet money that variations of the Toyota Corolla AE86 – the ‘Trueno’ – Kang drives in Drifter are probably next.
But, in his view, there is one icon that’s still underrated.

“The 1990-94 Nissan 300ZX twin turbo,” he said.
“Still has value to buy, [and it is still] under appreciated in the car scene.”
One last question, I have to ask: what’s your favorite snack?

In an interview he did a while back on the Nicki Sun Show, Sung Kang explained the reason why Han snacks in Fast & Furious.
He said that the character Han was originally created for an independent movie titled Better Luck Tomorrow, and in that movie Han was a chainsmoker.
When his character was introduced in Fast & Furious with Tokyo Drift, Sung Kang realized that making a protagonist look ‘cool’ while smoking was a bad idea for a younger audience.
Consequently, it was decided that Han would ‘chain-snack’ instead of chain-smoke.
And when we asked him about his favorite snack, his answer was pretty clear.
“Baked Lay’s Cheddar chips,” he said, without a moment’s hesitation.
